Jerry Seinfeld left fans excited with his performance at the Netflix Is a Joke Presents Jerry Seinfeld event. The event was organized at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. During the performance, the comedian drew hilarious comparisons between his show Seinfeld and Friends.

Jerry Seinfeld jokingly compares Friends and Seinfeld

Jerry Seinfeld joked about the similarities between Friends and Seinfeld. “Here’s my theory on Friends … My show came on [1989]-90. Friends came on a few years later,” he said. The 72-year-old continued, “I think NBC was watching my show and said, ‘Hey, this is working pretty well. Why don’t we try the same thing with good-looking people?”

Previously, Seinfeld had poked fun at Friends in 2024 at a satirical Pop-Tarts video. A character told Seinfeld, “Tell me, how does it feel when people steal your ideas and then do whatever they want with them?” As such, the comedian replied, “You mean like Friends?” For the unaware, Seinfeld was also a sitcom that focused on the lives of a group of friends. It aired for 9 seasons from July 5, 1989, to May 14, 1998. It went on to become one of the most influential American shows of all time.

Meanwhile, Friends aired for 10 seasons from 1994 to 2004, becoming one of the highest-grossing television shows of all time. Both Friends and Seinfeld left a strong cultural impact, with many drawing comparisons between the themes of the shows. Recently, Jerry Seinfeld and Seinfeld co-creator Larry David recalled the making of the show at The Rushmore Podcast. The event was also part of the Netflix Is a Joke festival.

Seinfeld and David shared how they met as stand-up comedians and started coming up with the ideas for the sitcom. Seinfeld shared how they would have conversations and started thinking, “if we put this in a show, it’d be hilarious.” David also revealed how the show’s first episode order beyond the pilot was just 4 episodes, which was the “smallest order in the history of television.”
