If you don’t know, Michael Che is a longtime staple on SNL, co-hosting “Weekend Update” alongside Colin Jost.
Laura Jarrett was interviewing him over his new standup special, Michael Che: Shot in Minnesota, when she wondered what he thought of Gillis‘ remarks.
What Did Shane Gillis Say About Women in His SNL Monologue?
If you don’t know, the 38-year-old stand up comedian made headlines when he said a line about women dressing like “whores” in his SNL opening monologue.
For context, he said: “I haven’t been to the gym in so long I didn’t know that women just dress like whores now. I’m sorry, there’s no other way to describe – have you seen it? I’ve seen it. The shorts? Have you seen the shorts? Those neon – they’re like artificial bait colors. The wrinkles go around the cheeks and all combine at the butthole. And don’t look, you’re not allowed to look – for real don’t look because they are filming. I’m in the background of like 10 TikToks right now.”
Michael Che Was Asked for His Reaction, But Things Took an Awkward Turn
Laura was asked for his opinion on Gillis‘ comments.
“That’s comedy, you think it’s funny and then some people don’t,” Michael stated in response.
“Did you laugh at what he said?” he was asked.
Michael responded, “I was at cue cards, actually, thinking about what I was gonna say that was gonna make people upset. So I wasn’t really, I didn’t even see it ‘til the next day.”
She then asked what he thought about it the next day after watching it.
He responded, “I didn’t think about it honestly. I think it just didn’t, it just was like… you know.”
He added that he wouldn’t necessarily see the monologue in a rehearsal, saying, “There’s so much going on. It’s really hard to see what everyone’s doing, you know? Especially for me. I’m not what they call ‘good at my job,’ so I don’t pay attention to all that.”
