The Magnificent Seven casts the CODA actor in a lead role. She joins Matt Dillon in a story that will explore the mercenaries’ troubled histories. The ensemble for MGM+’s upcoming series continues to grow.

Who Amy Forsyth is playing in The Magnificent Seven

Amy Forsyth plays Katie “Deadeye” Dalton — sharp-tongued, emotionally closed off, and really skilled with a gun. Katie first picked up a firearm on her family’s farm, taught by her father. Her talent earned her a spot in a Wild West show, where she became the star attraction under the name “Deadeye Dalton.”

During her years on the road, she crossed paths with Vin Taner — played by Michael Ealy — in a brief but intense romance that neither of them ever quite left behind. Her story takes a darker arc when she finally returns home after years away, only to find the family farm empty with no trace of what became of her family.

The loss sends her into a downward spiral. Her drinking worsens, and one night her aim fails her in front of a live crowd, and she kills her co-star. What follows are years of drifting, chasing dead-end rumours about the whereabouts of her brothers. She arrives in the story tired and worn down, but still a threat with a gun.

Amy Forsyth’s Katie Dalton is a new character, created specifically for the series. She did not appear in the original 1960 film nor in Antoine Fuqua’s 2016 remake. The show also features Joanne Froggatt as Harriet Talbot, Will Patton as Cyrus T. Clemons, and Danny Pino as Santiago “Santi” Vega (Via: Deadline).

The Magnificent Seven follows seven skilled but deeply flawed mercenaries hired to defend a peaceful Quaker village after mercenaries working for a ruthless land baron massacre its people in a bid to seize their land. As the seven prepare to fight back against overwhelming odds, the series wrestles with a moral core question: can violence ever be justified to protect those whose faith forbids it? The release date is yet to be announced.
