Why WNBA's A’ja Wilson Says Met Gala Prep Feels Just Like Game Day
A'ja Wilson’s time at the 2026 Met Gala felt like a slam dunk.
Because for the WNBA center—a member of the host committee for the May 4 event—prepping for the Met is similar to prepping for a game with the Las Vegas Aces.
“The nerves are still there,” A'ja exclusively told Zuri Hall during Live From E!: Met Gala 2026. “It's a little crazy—maybe a longer day. I didn't get a nap today.”
“We're getting through it,” she continued. “I’m just so excited to be here.”
And the 29-year-old’s look was nothing but net as she graced the steps of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art in a gold textured column Prabal Gurung gown featuring floor-length cape sleeves for the night’s “Fashion Is Art” dress code.
“We wanted to keep it cute and classy,” A’ja told E!. “But I love the gold accents. The gold accessories really kind of set it off for me.”
And when it comes to the fashion of the WNBA, no one ever calls foul. In addition to A’ja, stars Angel Reese and Paige Bueckers also hit the red carpet for fashion’s biggest night.
While Angel opted for a custom off-the-shoulder Altuzarra dress with billowing sleeves, Paige chose a custom three-piece Coach suit that featured multicolored graffiti blotches and intricate beading.

“All the little details—the beads, the coloring, everything—came together perfectly for me,” Paige shared in E!'s By Design as part of Live From E! Stream: Met Gala. “To be you, express yourself in the way that you want to enjoy the process of making a beautiful masterpiece.”
There were Easter eggs hidden throughout, too.
“They are going to add an embroidery of the five [to the sleeve],” the 24-year-old said. “That's specific to me and my basketball number.”
Needless to say, she scored big on the theme and dress code.
“For me, basketball is an art, so I feel like it's just all of my worlds collabing and colliding,” she explained. “For this piece specifically, I really enjoyed how they put it together.”
