Ryan Phillippe is looking back at a “wild night” with ex-wife Reese Witherspoon.

If you forgot, the 52-year-old 9-1-1: Nashville actor was married to the 50-year-old Legally Blonde actress from 1999 to 2008 and they share two children: daughter Ava, 27, and son Deacon, 22.

While appearing on the Wednesday (October 14) episode of Live With Kelly and Mark, Ryan recalled having an “out-of-body, out-of-mind experience” at the 2006 Oscars when his movie Crash won Best Picture just moments Reese won Best Actress for Walk the Line.

“It was a wild night altogether because my wife at the time, Reese Witherspoon, also won Best Actress,” Ryan shared. “While she was backstage giving her post-award interviews, they called Best Picture for Crash.”

“Morgan Freeman was the presenter of the Best Picture and I had never met Morgan Freeman so I fanned out on stage at the Oscars,” he continued. “I’m like, ‘I’ve always wanted to meet you, sir,’ and this is while the producer is accepting the award. Kind of a funny moment.”

After their big night at the Oscars, Ryan remembered partying “up until probably 5 or 6 in the morning.”

“We had such a fun after-party,” he added.

Despite no longer being married, Ryan and Reese have remained close as they co-parent their kids. Earlier this year, the whole family was together for Deacon‘s graduation from New York University.

In an interview from 2024, Ryan addressed nepotism in Hollywood after his kids entered the entertainment industry.
